Our History

Union Locksmiths' story began in pre-WW2 Hong Kong, when Kew Chan (陳大球, 1882-1968, aka Chan Tai-kau) - a Hakka entrepreneur from the Huiyang prefecture in Guangdong, China - founded "Union Construction Company" (華聯建築) circa 1934. As legend has it, Chan insisted that every item had to be installed the correct way, with no corners cut, or the job would have to be redone.
With such high standards in place, and a practice of collaboration with like-minded industry partners, Union grew to become a major contractor between the 1940s and 1970s for public works such as the construction, maintenance and repairs of roads and bridges. The family eventually sold the business in Hong Kong in the 1980s.
After almost 50 years, the icon of old Hong Kong craftsmanship has now been awakened in Singapore. This time, with professional, certified locksmiths at the helm, Union Locksmiths brings back the Union spirit, unifying the skillsets of different Singaporean lock specialists under one roof.
The Union spirit embodies Kew Chan's insistence on technical excellence, work ethic, good business practices and exemplary customer service. Time and technology marches on, but such a solid foundation can and should remain.
Let us know how we can serve you and you'll experience the Union spirit.
